3 Kinds of Music returns with a trio of duos
Galway Music Residency’s popular multi-genre series ‘3 Kinds of Music’ returns to The Mick Lally Theatre at the new time of 2pm Saturdays 11 November and 9 December. The series has been curated by Dr Ann-Marie Hanlon, lecturer in Music at University of Galway and expert on popular music and cultural theories of music. Her research includes a focus on music and social change, and explores the ways in which music is utilised in a political sense in discourses concerning women’s rights and within queer culture in Ireland and in the U.S.
On Saturday 11 November, Anne-Marie has crafted a varied programme, which includes a triple bill of classical, jazz, blues and traditional music and is an exploration of the ‘duo’. Three pairs will grace the stage including violinists Ingrid Nicola and Bogdan Sofei of Galway’s ensemble-in-residence ConTempo Quartet, Irish traditional mother and daughter Harp duo Kathleen Loughnane and Catriona Cannon, Maria Walsh of Zrazy with local guest artist and Blues duo Grainne Duffy with her husband Paul Sherry both on guitar and vocals.
The series continues on Saturday 9 December with a folk-inspired programme.
Galway Music Residency is supported by University of Galway (education partner), the Arts Council of Ireland, Galway City Council and Galway County Council.
