Dine at Home recommendations

In a different time, audiences would wander the cobbled streets of Galway and have a nice supper and a glass of wine in one of the many brilliant restaurants and bars up the town before joining us on Druid Lane for a show.

Just like us, our neighbourhood friends in the food and drinks trade have adapted to the times and changed what they are doing too. Here are a few of our top at home experiences all tried and tested by the theatre team.

We’ll start down the west where Kai, Ruibín and The Blue Note have teamed up for a seriously good three-hander, the Butcher St. Pie Company, where you collect ready to bake pies, pitchers of beer and dessert on a Friday. Get in there quick as Jess and Alice set the menu the Sunday before and it gets picked up in a flash.

Next up, the team at Tartare Café + Wine Bar have a treat of a takeaway menu from Friday to Sunday; you can preorder small plates of oysters, beef tartare and sourdough for a pre-theatre snack or, if you’re feeling inspired, check out JP’s cooking classes through Aniar and treat yourself to fine dining at home before the curtain.

Looking to feed a household? Look no further than across the road to Handsome Burger, voted the best burger in Ireland. These two lads from Galway started with a market stall and now have a home on Dominick Street and a following nationwide. Collection in Galway and various locations for meal kits.

What’s that? Our pals at Ard Bia at Nimmos have opened up their little red door again? Check out their click-and-collect options for brunch ahead of the matinee and enjoy a Spanish Arch staple, the Ard Bia mezze.

The Home Pizza Kits by The Dough Bros are legendary at this stage and they even deliver nationwide. Take a look at their collaboration with Jess Murphy from Kai for another take on their signature taste.

Our new neighbours Éan are serving up Éan at Home every Saturday and Sunday. Orders open on a Monday until sold out so do plan ahead. They offer meals with or without wine pairing, featuring lovely stuff like Ballyhoura mushroom pie and espresso madeleines.

Writing of wine pairing, if you’re about the town, Tadhg at Woodberry’s is too good at recommending a full bodied red. Up on Shop Street, Natalie and her team at McCambridges have everything you need for a really good spread and of course, if it’s Saturday, it’s the Galway Market for your fresh fish, organic vegetables and Sheridans Cheesemongers, who have a few recipes using their produce at home.

For the out of towners, Lignum have a Lignum a Casa menu (they also have collection points in the city) and Mountain Road, Ali’s vegan and vegetarian meals to bring home are sure to help you make an evening out of it.
